Traditional Talk Therapy

Sometimes the best tool is a good conversation. Talk therapy is there for older kids, teens, parents and adults who'd rather talk it out.

What talk therapy is

Talk therapy is conversation-based therapy. We meet, talk about what's going on, and work toward the goals you care about. It's a good fit for people who are comfortable putting things into words.

Approaches I draw from

My foundation is Adlerian, and I take an integrative approach, which means I can draw from other methods when they fit:

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

Looks at the connections between thoughts, feelings and actions.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

Focuses on skills such as mindfulness, handling distress, managing emotions and communicating with others.

Solution-focused therapy

Focuses on goals, strengths and what's already working.

Attachment-based work

Pays attention to relationships and the bond between children and the important adults in their lives.

Who it's often used with

Older kids, teens, parents and adults. Talk therapy can also be combined with sandtray or expressive arts.

Every child, teen, family and adult is different. If you're not sure which approach is right, that's exactly what a consultation is for.

Other approaches

Play Therapy

Play is how kids naturally communicate. Sessions use toys, games and creative materials so children can express feelings in their own language.
