About Melissa

Hi, I'm Melissa.

I'm a Licensed Independent Social Worker in Iowa, and Wired4Play is my solo private practice. When you work with Wired4Play, you work with me.

Headshot of Melissaphoto placeholder

A personal, solo practice.

I want families to know they're working with someone personable and approachable, not a big agency or managed-care system. Wired4Play is just me, so you'll get to know the person you're working with.

Besides my private practice, I also work as a School Social Worker with an Area Education Agency (AEA). Wired4Play is separate from that work.

Melissa is writing her bio. This spot will share a little about her story, why she loves play therapy, and what families can expect working with her.

My approach

Adlerian at the core, integrative in practice.

My theoretical base is Adlerian. Adlerian theory, based on the work of Alfred Adler, looks at the whole person in the context of their relationships, and pays attention to things like belonging, encouragement and each person's strengths.

I draw from Adlerian theory as my foundation, and I take an integrative approach, which means I can bring in other methods when they fit the child, teen, family or adult I'm working with.

Play therapy is my main specialty. I also use sandtray, expressive arts and traditional talk therapy.
